About the Speaker
For nearly 25 years, Debra has contributed to The Charles Penzone Salons organization as an artistic director, training director and senior vice president. She now serves as president over the six salons and The Brittany Group Professional Beauty Products and Education.
Because of her expertise as a hair professional, devoted volunteerism and philanthropy, Debra was honored with the American Cancer Society’s “Volunteer of the Year” Award in 2002 and 2007, Modern Salon magazine’s “Spirit of Noel” award in 2003, the Ohio Division Sunrise “Look Good…Feel Better” award in 2003, and the American Heart Association’s “Volunteer Achievement” award in 2004. In 2010, Debra was named recipient of the Childhood League’s Schoedinger Award for Outstanding Service and Smart Business Smart Leaders Award.
Debra is actively involved with her community. She organized a team of certified trainers from the American Cancer Society for the “Look Good…Feel Better” program, which is delivered to breast cancer patients in local hospitals. She also founded the Charles Penzone Mother-Daughter Spa Day for A Kid Again (formerly Adventure for Wish Kids), which has been pampering teen cancer patients and their mothers for over 15 years. She is also involved in the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign, Circle of Red and Komen Columbus “Race for the Cure.”
Most recently, Debra and her husband, Charles Penzone, served as honorary chairs for The Pink Tie Ball to celebrate the 20th anniversary for Komen Columbus. Debra served as chairperson for “Les Chapeaux le Jardin” (Hat Day) at Franklin Park Conservatory in 2009, co-chair for the 80th Anniversary of the Ohio Theatre’s CAPA Gala in 2008 and honorary chair for the American Cancer Society’s “Cattle Baron’s Ball in 2007.” Debra served as president for the Childhood League Center in 2004-2005.
In 2012, Debra was named the recipient of the Smart Business magazine’s Power 100 as a central Ohio leader who makes things happen. In 2010, she received the prestigious Kent Clapp CEO Leadership Award. Debra was recognized as one of the 20 Most Remarkable Women in central Ohio and a Forty Under 40 recipient from Columbus Business First. She was also chosen as one of the “20 Most Intriguing Salon Owners” by Salon Today magazine.
Debra serves as a board member of the American Cancer Society, Franklin Park Conservatory Women’s Board and SAKS external Advisory Board. She is a former board member of Haven of Hope, A Kid Again and Dress for Success. Debra is a member of the Conway Center for Family Business, International Salon/Spa Business Network, National Cosmetology Association and the Women’s Presidents’ Organization
In 2011, Debra published her first book, “Debbie’s Club™: Discovering MyTrueBeauty™ for Girls” to help inspire and empower girls to see their unique beauty from the inside out. A portion of the proceeds from her book, speaking engagements and seminars will help many non-profit organizations through her foundation, Earth Angels, The Debra Penzone Foundation with the Columbus Foundation.
