Constance Hill-Johnson Shares Her Secret for Hiring Good People

Constance Hill-Johnson is the owner and managing director of Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services that is located in Cleveland, Ohio.  It is part of a network of franchised agencies throughout the United States and Canada that provides in-home services and assistance to the elderly and older adults. It helps clients live as independently as possible by remaining safely in their own familiar home environment.   In this post, Constance shares her secret for hiring good people.

What drives your passion for business?
The fact that I am an adult care-giver myself. I can really relate to the women who run their own business and need adult care [for their parent(s)]. I truly understand. I can very easily place myself in their shoes.
What is one significant challenge you have faced in growing your business?
Hiring and finding, recruiting good skilled caregivers.
How did you address this challenge?
I rely more and more on my current staff [for recommendations] – good people refer good people.  I also work closely with training/nursing programs as well as senior organizations for referrals. I have many seniors taking care of [other] seniors. Or as I call them, the chronologically mature workforce. I want people who have a heart for this [type of work].
What advice do you have for other women business owners?
Surround yourself with other successful business owners. Also, during the initial start of you business, share your dream with a few, a select few who will uplift and support your dream.
