NAWBO 2013 Visionary Award Honoree
King and fellow finalist Pat Gibson (PMG Communications) were honored last Friday at the Visionary Awards Gala, held at the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel. With more than 450 guests, it was the largest and most successful NAWBO Columbus event to date.
“We couldn’t be happier with the success of this year’s event,” said Caroline Worley, president of NAWBO Columbus and owner of Worley Law, LLC. “We had almost 50% more people than last year, both Mayor Coleman and Governor Kasich were in attendance, and we had two phenomenal finalists. There is no more inspirational way to spend an afternoon than this!”
The event featured an exciting keynote address from Maxine Clark, founder of Build-a-Bear Workshop, and entertainment from Shadowbox Live. Stacie Boord, Community Relations Director & General Manager for Shadowbox Live, served as the event emcee.
In its 16th year, the NAWBO Columbus Visionary Award is bestowed upon a local female business owner who has not only excelled in her business and industry, but also as a leader in her community.
After spending years in the furniture industry without obtaining the leadership roles she desired, Darla King formed King Business Interiors in 1998 with her life savings and a small five-person crew. In 15 years, Darla had led the company through tremendous growth, expanding to 49 employees (including her husband, son, and daughter), a 14,000 square foot showroom, and over 100,000 square feet in warehousing.
“I have been very fortunate to have had wonderful advice and support from many people along the way, including the women of NAWBO Columbus,” King stated in her acceptance speech. “This is an entire room full of Visionaries and I am so proud to represent YOU!”
